Manuel Gomez Villalba, known as Manu Gomez, was born on March 14, 1956, in Mont-sur-Marchienne (Hainaut). After training as an art teacher at the École Normale de Mons (1979), he became a filmmaker, painter, and sculptor—a self-taught filmmaker who developed his artistic vision outside the formal education system.
Since 1983, he has built up an extensive filmography of animated and live-action short films, cultivating a deeply personal experimental style. His films—animations made from marble, paper, and meat, as well as animated tableaux inspired by the deadly sins—are all explorations of the limits of the cinematic medium. He produces his works through MGV Productions and Monkey Productions.
He was an associate professor of animation at the University of Lille 3 and teaches visual arts in Brussels. His films have been screened at major international festivals and were selected for the Cannes Film Festival’s Critics’ Week.
