Manuel Poutte is a Belgian filmmaker born in Etterbeek in 1963. He holds a bachelor’s degree in philosophy and a degree in screenwriting from the ULB (ELICIT). A musician and composer with the new wave band Bernthøler (1981–1985), which was signed to Warner Distribution, he turned to filmmaking in the early 1990s.
In 1992, he co-founded Lux Fugit Film, an independent production company based in Brussels, through which he has developed a body of work that blends fiction and documentary—co-produced with RTBF, Wallimage, and the Belgian Tax Shelter.
His films explore the boundaries of desire, individual freedom, and alternative forms of social organization, with a consistent commitment to formal rigor and a particular focus on individual lives.
